When an old friend from high school comes into town and says she wants to go to Banff for the day, you better bet I’m in. One of the biggest perks of living in Calgary is having the mountains so close by, so I try and get out as often as I can. And, having just returned from Australia this time, I was totally game for a change of pace. Especially before heading out on my next trip…Costa Rica!
Here are some shots from our visit to the snow-covered Lake Minnewanka.
It wasn’t too cold of a day and the sun was out so we were lucky in that sense. However, I stupidly wore boots without proper grips on the bottom. I didn’t fall but I came damn close. There is a bit of a hill to walk down to Lake Minnewanka, and the snow is a little deep in some spots, so I would definitely recommend wearing proper snow boots or at least shoes with good grips on the bottom. Also, pick a pair that go a bit higher up your leg so you don’t get snow in them (like I did).
Or, you can really go all out and go snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in the area.
These photos are from the Vermilion Lakes, which are a little bit closer to the town of Banff. It was much windier here so we just stayed long enough to take in those views.
